DS won't turn on after charging?

I recently grabbed my old original DS from home and was happy to see that it still powered on without being charged after several years. Later on, I plugged it into a wall outlet using a GBA charger and watched the orange light illuminate for about a second, and then turn off. Now it won't power on, and the orange light won't stay on even if held in different orientations. I opened it up and saw some black corrosion (I think?) around the bottom of the charging port. Should I attempt to replace the battery or clean the port? Is it fixable without replacing the port completely?

Answer this question I have this problem too

@hunieboy yes, you do want to replace the battery. It may have used it's last bit of energy and now no longer accepts a charge. Anything like this "saw some black corrosion" needs cleaning. I suggest you remove your motherboard and clean it with some isopropyl alcohol. Use nothing less than 90%+To clean it I suggest you follow this guide. It was written for an Apple iPhone 3G but it is still pertinent to your console as well.

After that replace the battery, reassemble and re-evaluate. Post some good pictures of your motherboard before cleaning so we can see where there is any potential damage.
