Why won't my cassette player work without a dc adapter?

I recently got a cassette player for my Halloween costume, and I've discovered that it won't play when I use batteries, brand new ones at that. But when I plug it up to a power adapter it works perfectly fine. At first, I thought it that it wasn't portable until I watched a video of someone unboxing the same product and theirs worked fine.

Answer this question I have this problem too

There are several small things that can be the problom:

1) check that the battery us infact the 100% compadable with your player.

2) check for any corrosion of the positive and or negative sides of the battery.(you said they were new so thus is probably not the problom)

What model of player do you have?

It's a gpx model CAS337B. I've heard that this is a relatively cheap brand which I didn't know beforehand since I was just looking for something quickly.

Hi @nativenewyorker

Just verifying that you inserted the 2 x AA batteries as shown in the user manual?

Yes I did. Brand new so I assumed the batteries weren't the problem.

@nativenewyorker

fair enough.

It seems like a wiring problem then between the battery holder terminals and the circuit board.

You will have to open it up and check although if you have an Ohmmeter you could connect it between the +ve and -ve battery holder terminals and check that there's a resistance reading of some kind proving that the connection was OK.

It it is OK then it still needs to be opened though.
