Gets warm charging but doesn't switch on. Display dark, no reaction.

Hi!
My ipad 5 wifi A1822 does not react any more. It gets warm to the touch on the right side while charging. Not concerningly warm but impossible not to feel.

Letting it charge for a while does not change it. Still no reaction. Also when connected to power.

Tested the "volume up, down, power button"-sequence for a reset. No reaction.

Nothing happened to the pad. No drop, no water, no unnormal usage.

The battery was getting weak, but other than that it was a decent tablet.

Any ideas?

The issue may be the screen. Try iDiagnosis https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/run-diagnos.... Reply back if that solved the issue!

The whole device is dead. No startup, no vibration feedback, no beeps and blurps. It is stuck way before you could test a screen.

@paulpanzer If there is a major short in the logic board, that can overload the whole system. Try getting that replaced

by

I have a short in one of the caps on the board. Sadly it is one of the larger ones that need to be replaced.

It is exactly the same problem like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIm5538Z...

But I don't have another broken Ipad to butcher for parts. Where can I buy such a component?

by

@paulpanzer You could go on Ebay and buy a broken ipad for parts. But that's risky because the new broken ipad could have the same problem. Or you could buy a new working logic board. Either one has it's pros and cons.,

Try pressing power and home button for 20 to 30 seconds.

Did that, no result.

@paulpanzer Looking like possibly a new battery. If you connect to iTunes and try the home and power does iTunes recognise it?

by

I will try this. but as the System is completely off, i doubt that.

If it was the battery, shouldn't it at least power up when connected to power?

And why does it get warm at the area where the board is?

by

It is not recognised by itunes.

Put the numbers into Google or eBay. There should be something pop up.
