bought and installed new SSD, but it doesn't show up on bootup
I installed a new SSD in my macbook pro, but when I turn on the computer, it doesn't show up. I can't see it in disk utility or anything. I'm sure it's seated properly.
I vaguely remember something about maybe having to make it bootable or formatting it with another computer before installing it?
I don't know, but at this point I'm out of ideas.
Any one have any guesses?

Is this a good question?
Can you help us help you!

@gmichaelson - Well…we’re getting warmer😁the A1398 tells us you have a 15” retina system which covers a range of systems from 2012 to 2015!
Apple made quite a few changes within this series. Think it like a car, a Mustang from 2012 is very different to the 2015!
But let’s move on… what is the SSD you bought?

Here’s a good reference The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs While this just covers Apple SSDs you can see how the different years drives have did Derek performance and some won’t work as the interface is not the same.

It's a mid-2015 MBP. Serial number is C02Q9E70G8WN.
The SSD I bought is: OWC Aura Pro X2 SSD
The site seems to indicate that it's compatible with this laptop.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
