Laptop won't turn on but lights on the side are on permanently

Hi, I went to turn my laptop on this morning and nothing happened. The power button has always been a bit difficult since I got it, but now it just won't turn on at all? There are 2 lights on the side of the laptop with symbols next to them. 1 looks like a lightbulb and this is constantly white. The one next to it has a battery symbol and is constantly red. Any ideas??? Thanks
