Intermittent wipers don't work.

The medium and high speed front wipers work as they should. None of the intermittent speeds work. The wipers do operate one time in each setting, but not at all after that. The windshield in front of the sensor is clear.

Hi @rickbulwicz

Unless it's a problem with the wiper switch assembly (seems unlikely that it would affect all of the intermittent speeds though) it could be a loose harness connection (at either end, wiper switch assembly or module) or a problem with what is known as the general module.

Here's an image from the 2002-2006 BMW X5 service manual, showing the wiring connections and the location of the module.

Thank you @jayeff! I'll get my multimeter and start poking around.

If you don't need the "rain-sensing" part, and would be OK with just intermittent wipers (3 speeds), then you can get that easily. I had the same problem with my '02 X5. First, separate the plastic shell around the base of the rear view mirror. Then just unplug the cable from the rain sensor. Replace the shell carefully. You now have basic intermittent wipers, available at the wiper stalk, minus the rain-sensor. THAT'S IT!
