Can't connect or reset camera to app wifi connection, password unknown

Years ago I lent my gopro and when returned the person had registered a camera to app wifi password and couldn't remember it. Since then I'm not able to use this feature and haven't found a way to fix this problem. Is there some hardware piece I can substitute to fix this? Or some software bypass or something, anything really, it's been virtually unusable since.

Options

Have you tried doing a manual software update? This may overwrite any settings on the camera and resolve the issue. Hero3 update page (gopro.com)
