Hi @smashly,

What is the model number of the refrigerator?

Check if you can hear if the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment is running.

It will run as long as the compressor motor is running and if the doors are shut. If you open a door (either door, fridge or freezer) then the fan will stop (the compressor will keep running) and start again when you close the door again.

Do not confuse this fan with the condenser fan which is located outside the compartments, underneath near the compressor motor and it can run at any time whether the doors are open or not.

If you can't hear the evaporator fan running, then this could be due either a faulty fan, faulty power supply to the fan, faulty control board or most likely the fan has iced up and stopped due to an auto defrost problem.

The defrost problem could be caused by a faulty defrost heater, faulty defrost thermostat, blocked drain from under the evaporator unit to the evaporator pan under the compartments near the compressor or a faulty control board.

The evaporator fan is located behind a panel on the inside at the back of the freezer compartment. Access to the panel so that it can be removed is via the door at the front of the freezer. If you remove the panel you can check if the fan and evaporator unit are covered in ice. Normally there shouldn't be that much ice as the unit should be auto defrosted every ~10 hours.

Be safety aware. If you decide to remove the panel to check, disconnect the power to the refrigerator before you start

Knowing the model number may help to find the service manual so that the diagnostic test modes can be run to find out what the problem is and also to find the correct spare part if a part needs to be replaced
