MacBook Air shows vertical lines and double of image. What's broken?

My Macbook shows vertical lines and parts of the image are doubled in the buttom half of the display. Can someone tell me what's broken - and will changing the display fix the problem? If I use an external monitor - there are no problems at all...

Thank you very much and have a nice day.

@kokoele - What is your exact model? There are quite a few MacBook Air models. Look as the About this Mac menu to get the info.

Hi

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro that I bought broken and it had this issue

I had to unplug the display and plug it back in again then good as new as if nothing ever happened

If that doesn’t work you may need to replace your display

Hopefully this helps

Thanks:-)

@kokoele

You might need to replace your display unfortunately

@kokoele

Just out of interest

You didn’t drop it

Sorry I’m just assuming it came on randomly

No it came just randomly.

@kokoele

Your probably going to need a new display assembly

But there’s one last thing we can try

Carefully remove the display and inspect the 2 ribbon cables that come from the display,if you see any dust or debris on it CAREFULLY remove it , I really do mean carefully as we don’t want to make things worse:-)

Sadly you need a new display assembly, something heavy sat on your system and/or got a bang in the wrong place.
