After replaced the battery, it won't charge

I've replaced the battery on my 3G. During the replacement, the #4 connector to the docking connector was ripped (it stuck to the bottom of the faceplate assembly) when I pulled the suction cup. So I had to replace the dock connector as well. After all is done according to the guide, it won't charge the battery. The phone was plugged in the whole night and in the morning it showed the battery is completely drained, even with the charging sign on.

What happened? Should I ask for a new battery?
