Negative picture & blue spots

Samsung UE55MU6120

Block Image

So about 2y after purchasing tv we started getting these blue spots then about 3+1/2y screen going full negative at first it would come back quickly but now it's sometimes absolutely ages and we just give up and turn it off.

If we can't fix blue spots fair enough but is there any way to fix the negative because it's unwatchable and I'm so annoyed this TV was not cheap and has not lasted a reasonable time.

Thanks for any help

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @yoohoosauna ,

Not sure but it looks like a problem with the Contrast settings not holding and going to max and beyond

If possible try adjusting the Contrast down and check if that makes any difference. It may not if it is faulty and won't adj, but it may point to being the problem it if it does clear it and then goes faulty again.

@jayeff unfortunately nothing visibly happens when i change the contrast. I've tried wiggling the TV quite firmly a few times as i had an old monitor that did something similar, almost like it has a loose wire or needs to warm up or something? It seems to work occasionally but not enough for me to be confident it's not just coincidence because it randomly comes back by itself.

If this information is any help when the problem first started it would just happen randomly and last for a few seconds-minutes and go back to normal. Now whenever you turn the TV (after a long break mostly overnight but noticed it after a few hours too) on its negative and can last up to like an hour before it randomly comes back or if i wiggle it (might be coincidence) but i haven't noticed it doing it randomly since it started doing it every time it turns on instead. Though it probably has happened when I'm not in the room just seems less common since.

@yoohoosauna

Can only suggest that you disconnect the power from the TV and then remove the back cover and check that the ribbon cables connecting the boards are OK by gently disconnecting a cable one end at a time and inspecting the end to make sure that they're OK i.e. no corrosion etc and then reinserting it and doing the other end or another cable the same way

NOTE: Check that there are no locking bars or latches holding the cable in before trying to remove them. Do not just pull them straight out without looking. If they have a stiff plastic piece attached to the end, use it to pull it out of the connector and not the cable itself.

Be careful with the cables that attach to the screen. Maybe do not check them as the screen connections are fragile

Other than that I'm not sure if the problem is on the mainboard or not (sending the wrong info to the screen)

@yoohoosauna this can be a panel issue (issues with the LCD drivers) or a T-con board error. At this time I would go ahead and invest in a T-con replacement. Purchase from somewhere that has an easy return policy, or even an inexpensive used on…… just in case.
