My camera won't let me record..

Hello, My handy cam won’t let me record.

when i press the REC button the camera says CLEANING TAPE.

Which means that it’s detecting a cleaning tape and not a regular tape.

but in my case it’s a regular tape. I can play video

but i only hear sound. i can see video for a split second if i pause and play again. when i can see video there a lot of noise you can barely see anything.

Hochberg Academy  all of this is usually caused by dirty video heads. You do want to go ahead and clean those. I use a microfiber cloth (or a good cotton swab) with some isopropyl alcohol. Of course you can also try a commercially available cleaning tape.
