I can not start up.?

Yesterday I tried to start up, but at the start page the apple changes into a stop sign, I know the battery is very old.

But I got help from an Apple Reseller yesterday and they placed a new battery and still it didn´t start up.

I would have run a diagnostic test, but I don´t have the original cd anymore.

Does someone have an idea..?

You can get a copy of the original cd/dvd from Apple for $15.

Just now I tried starting up holding cmd (apple sign) v and it started looking for kernel cache files, no file found, loading mach_kernel and it received error loading drivers, soon after it gave the logo and the other sign. a circle with a diagonal stripe..

Apple store is next..

If its a stop sign then its an error with the hard drive, the mac cannot boot from the boot.efi files iirc. Ideally you would want to use disk utility to verify the disk first. Take it to an Apple store they would be happy to check if it is a hard drive and whether it just need an erase and install or a complete new hard drive.

Boot the mac in verbose mode, hold cmd v on boot and paste up the bit where it fails
