downloaded latest Itunes with one album,will I loose songs on my iPod?

will i loose the songs on my iPod if i plug it in to Itunes which has only got one album on it ??? I recently had to reformatt laptop for more space but lost my Itunes library , but have it on backup on HDD (DONT KNOW HOW TO GET THEM BACK INTO NEW LIBRARY THOUGH) so worred if i plug my Ipod in i might lose all of my 2,000 songs, is there a way to prevent this happening please???

yes you will lose the info since it will not have a backup on the new HDD. There are a few programs out, depending on your OS, that will allow you to download your songs to your hard drive first. Make sure that iTunes auto sync is off before you plug your iPod in. I use CopyPod for my windows machines. Once you downloaded your songs from your iPod , just add them to the library as usual.
