iPhone microphone off, not on speaker?

Hello Ifixit

I got a problem with my Iphone. When I'm calling someone, they cannot hear me, unless it put it on speaker. There is no background noise, when not having it on speaker.

I tried to change the microfon with a new working complete sampled dock.

This didnt solve anything, and Im still at the same problem.

FW: 4.3.5

Not jailbroken.

Best regards Mike Sørensen

Have you prior to the problem dropped or opened the phone?

You might have the now old "Screw problem". I mean the screw near the camera that grounds the logic board to the metal band. check it's grounding first and give us more info.

Hmm I will try that.

Not it hasn't been dropped or slam .

How old your phone is? If it's under warranty, you can get swapping warranty from apple service provider. The problem is of hardware only. Replacing the microphone unit should solve the problem.

Try the following 2 suggestions,

1. with some canned air clean your dock female port on the iphone, make sure there is no lint or corrosion in there.

2. plug in your headphones into the headphone jack several times and blow some air into it as well.

I ran into this issue when i had my 3gs, the firs time i had something stuck in the headphone jack and the second my wife left it outside and port got corroded so i cleaned it with some Alcohol and small tooth brush and it started working again.

I had somewhat of the same problem except I could not be heard at all, I did just about every fix I could find on ifixit to no avail, then I cleaned all of the contacts on the logic board now I can be heard by the caller except when I use speaker.

I have not attempted to fix this problem as of yet, so if anyone has had this problem and fixed it please contact me via Ifixit.

It could be the same bug I had. There was nothing that I remember happening to my phone and it suddenly stopped working, but I read about a bug where the iPod feature can cause the microphone to stop working. I could use the hands-free just fine, but without it nobody could hear me:
