Backlight works, screen doesn't show anything, can I get data off?

My 10 year old son’s old Ipad is no longer showing anything on the screen. You can see the backlight works, but the screen doesn’t show anything. You can hear sounds like when it is plugged in. When I hook it up to the computer, Itunes recognizes it. It says to click on the Ipad to accept the computer having access to the Ipad; this, of course, is where the issue lies. I can’t click anything on the Ipad to accept.

It was his Ipad from age 2-8, I am just trying to recover the photos and videos. His younger brother passed away, and I know there are photos and videos of them together on there.

Thank you in advance

Try triple clicking the home button as if assistive touch is enabled it can sometimes bug out and cause black display.

Also try force restarting the iPad. To do this hold down home and power button for 10 seconds then turn the iPad on again.

It could also be the display cable needing to be reseated. Sometimes just smacking the iPad at the back with your hand is enough to get it to display again.

After smacking the back a few times you’ll need to force shut down the iPad and turn it on to see if it works.

If that all does not work then the iPad needs to be opened up and have the cable reseated. Since data is important I would leave this to a reputable repair store to get this fixed.

Thank you Ben, hitting it turned the screen back on enough to be able to click “allow this device to access photos and videos”. Thank you!!! Priceless videos saved.
