Engine will not start; does not click when key is turned

Mowing got a strange smell from the mower, smelled sweet. It then cut off and white smoke billowed from the exhaust. Now it won't start when the key is turned, no Idk as well. Looked at the engine and oil was caked all on the sodes and underneath. Dip stick was dry. So it likely seized and is now broken for good, right? Is there any hope of fixing it?

I know that blowing an automotive engine will sometimes feature detecting a "sweet" sort of odor, which is actually associated with the coolant in the engine, but don't think that applies here.

Sounds to me that maybe you were losing engine oil from a leak, and ran it out of and/or without oil until it seized. If that's the case, I agree that engine is done.

Try turning the main shaft, using a socket and ratchet (or breaker bar). If it doesn't want to turn, it's likely seized.

Mower itself shouldn't be hurt by the event of engine failure, though. So you could simply replace the engine, if you wanted to keep that mower in service (vs. perhaps buying another mower).
