Post-screen replacement, iPhone 6s will not charge beyond 1%

I recently replaced the screen of an iPhone 6s that hasn’t been charged since last June. It turns on when I plug it in, and the screen works fine, but my battery never charges above 1%—and my phone quickly dies when I unplug it. Do you have any idea what might be wrong or how I can fix it? Thanks!

Thanks for the answers! I played around with detaching and reattaching the battery a couple times. At first, I only got a black screen depicting a red, depleted battery. But on the second attempt, the phone turned on at 4% and then fully charged to 100%. I’ll keep an eye on it, but a new battery might be in my future.

I’ve had phones from friends/family with this issue, and a battery replacement fixes this type of issue.

Yup, 6 months fully drained is more than enough to kill a battery.
