Refrigerator Won't Start Automatically

Refrigerator : GE TFX25ZP Side-by-side

Symptom: Everything seems to work except:

  1. When the temp inside the refrigerator rises above set range, the refrigerator won’t start by itself. It will start when manually set the temp switch inside the refrigerator to “OFF” position first and then set to “Level 5”.
  2. Then the compressor starts and cool to the set temp and stops running by itself.
  3. Temp will start rise because compressor is not running.
  4. Go to 1.

Is it because temperature sensing device malfunction? At least it detects cold temp to stop the compressor.

The thermostat contacts are sticking. It’s just normal wear and tear and exposure to tempature changes and moisture. Unplug the refrigerator before attempting any repair. The thermostat is locate behind the dial. Two or three screws hold up the panel. There will be 2 writers to the thermostat and a green ground. The switch will have a long copper line attached. That’s the sensor bulb. Be careful not to damage it. When replacing the new thermostat it’s always beat to take pics of how the original part before is installed removing it. You’ll need to run that copper bulb the same route as original. Once installed and all screws back in. Turn unit on and allow 24 hours for it to reach tempature.
