Why does my Minolta XG-M's advance lever set off the shutter?

Out of nowhere, my Minolta XG-M started having problems with the shutter. At first I noticed that when I pressed down on the shutter button, it did nothing. But then as I tinkered with it, I found that when I wind the advance lever, the shutter goes off. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on fixing it?
