Why can't my PSP advance beyond startup?

Ever since I dropped my PSP, it wouldn't load the cross menu bar. The PSP goes through the sony computer entertainment message and the usual waves in the background. Doesn't load the cross menu bar, just the waves. It's reluctant to turn off; I have to hold the power switch up for about 10 seconds or take out the battery. The problem still persists regardless of whether there's a UMD in the slot or not. Changing batteries doesn't help. I haven't tried the Pandora battery yet, and I don't plan to if I can get this fixed without one. What might be the cause of my PSP's woe?

Edit: I'm on official firmware.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi,

Can you state if you are on Official Firmware from SONY or on Custom Firmware and the version numbers in question.

If you are on custom there may be some light at the end of the tunnel.

As you mention a Pandora Magic stick combo is probably the easiest way to get to CFW.
