Why can't I do anything with my controller?

So, my original Dualschock 3 controller broke, so I bought a new wired controller, it works pretty good. I have a problem with some games. In those games I can only move, but I can't use any buttons, I press and press but nothing's happening, and It's not only these wired controllers, I even used my PS4 controller, but It's the same problem.

number one I doubt if ps4 controller is still supported to work on ps3 likewise ps3 to 4

but have you tried resetting the controller configuration by using a pin, broom, or any straight tiny object to press the tiny hole at the back of the ps3 controller

that’s might probably fix your issue
