My Notebook didn't detect new SSD drive

Yesterday I replaced my old HDD drive by new Sandisk 240 SSD drive on my Asus Notebook X554L , when I turned my laptop on and tried to install windows on it I realized that my laptop didn't detect this drive at all, I tried to re install it physically again and restart the machine nothing works.

Is there any possibility that this SSD is broken or my Notebook doesn't accept SSD drives or is there any other solution?

Edit: I just connected it to USB cable to another PC after that format it, then I connected it again to my PC and installed windows 10 on it smoothly. thanks for everyone gave me ideas to try.

Hi @mohazi ,

Can you still detect the old HDD if you reinstall it?

if so just wondering, what is the physical depth (height) of the HDD that you replaced?

According to the specs your SSD has a thickness of 6.7mm. If the HDD is thicker (say 9mm) then the SSD connection may not be seated correctly and making a good connection.

Line up the connector end of the HDD when in the caddy and the SSD connector end when in the caddy and check if they are at the same level.

If the SSD is lower pad out the caddy somehow (foam perhaps) to raise the SSD to the correct height.

Just a thought.

It is most likely that the SSD is not configured yet, you can try to format it to NTFS .

Your best bet is to go into BIOS and see if it detects the drive, if so your drive is not broken and it needs to be formatted. The formatting you can do in the windows installation GUI. You can try this guide : https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-format-c...
