Transmission won't go when put in 1st or 2nd gear

I have a 1994 gmc 4x4. When you put the truck in 1st or 2nd it will not go. When in drive or over drive it shifts through all gears with a small slip between 2nd and 3rd. Anyone know what may cause this

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

This is sounding like a transmission problem. I would take it to your nearest auto repair shop and have them take a look at it, as gear slipping and not going on certain gears is a clear sign that something is wrong with it.

I know it's a transmission problem just trying to see if anyone has had similar problems and what the cause of it is

What transmission is in it? Sounds like your friction plates are what is causing the slip. But also if it isn't a physical issue preventing movement, it could be solenoid issues if it is an electric trans. Hence why I asked. I have a couple of transmission repair manuals that also have a troubleshooting section.
