MacBook - Majority of keyboard not working anymore! (tried SMC/PRAM)

Help! Literally half of the keys on the keyboard don't work.. Just random ones :(

I tried the SMC/PRAM reset but no luck. Booting in safe mode also doesn't change anything.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Your post was sort of vague and I have a few questions for you before I can properly assist you.

  1. Has it been water damaged or spilled on at any point?
  2. Have you opened it before?
  3. Has it fallen recently?
  4. Was it working before?
  5. Are the non working keys in on particular area as opposed to random keys everywhere?

It sounds like a hardware issue to me - meaning that either the keyboard is messed up internally and would need replacing, or that the cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard came loose.

Sorry for the lack of information.

- no water damage/spill

- recently changed the battery - keys were working before the change

- the non working keys are completely random. All numbers work except for #4. Then the full QWERTY row doesnt work, some keys in second and third row dont work either.

Someone on another forum has suggested replacing the keyboard so I will give that a try

Sounds like your best shot. Good luck!
