Why can't I update my MacBook to the newest version of IOS

Hello,

I have only just had my macbook a week now and I want to update it to the newest IOS and I am unable to do so. I have tried everything but nothing is changing such as the display and what not. It all seems to be in the like 2013 mode. Which is no good as I need to download apps from the app store and I can't because of the stupid IOS.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

Answer this question I have this problem too

The only thing I can think of is that the MacBook Air is too old to upgrade to the latest Mac OS X.

iOS is for iPads, iPods and iPhones by the way.
