Dead iPhone 3GS. Any reasons?

I tried to charge my iPhone 3GS and while it was charging. It turned itself off, The battery was at 98% when it turned itself off. It didn't show any error. Just turned off while I was browsing in Safari. I unplugged the charger. Which is the original Apple charger. But after that phone became really hot. I left the phone for about 2 hours when I came back it wasn't hot anymore but it won't turn on. I tried holding the Home + Power button. Tried to get it into DFU mode. Plugging into PC or charger doesn't work either. Can you guys tell me what may be wrong with it? Is it the logic board or the battery?

I think I have a power IC for iPhone 3GS on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/iPhone-3GS-Main-Powe... I would try the battery first. If not then I would get the service for power IC.

mystikal, I would start with the battery. It is not very expensive toreplace and readily available. Once you have the new battery installed and should still have problems, at least you know that the battery is good. Makes it easier for trouble shooting. iPhone 3GS Battery Replacement and the battery is available here iPhone 3GS Battery GoodLuck and let us know.

It turns out it's the power IC. I have given it to a service centre for diagnostics though. Let's hope it gets fixed. Thanx a lot for your response!

Good that you got it figured out.Lets hope the cost for repair is economically feasible. Good Luck.
