Do you mean that you tried new batteries and it didn't work?

Use a digital camera (or the camera in a mobile phone to test if the remote is working.

Turn on the camera and then point the remote control (the end that you normally point towards the TV) towards the camera.

Press any button on the remote control and check if you can see the flash on the end of the remote when you look at it on the camera's LCD screen.

If you can see the flash, ensure that you try all the buttons on the remote especially the Power, Volume and Channel Up/Down as these get used the most and they tend to wear out.

If all the buttons work OK when using the test then there is a problem with the TV's IR receiver or something further into the TV

If you cannot see the flash at all try the test on another IR remote control unit that you know works, to prove that you are doing the test correctly. If you still cannot see the flash on the TV remote control unit then verify that you have installed the batteries correctly and try again. If still no good then the remote is faulty.

kdreumel since you've already tried new remotes, the issue here can be the IR receiver board. Remove the back of your set and take some pictures of all of your boards and how they are laid out in the back of the set. Post those with your question so we can see what you see. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that. If this is a CRT TV you do not want to touch anything on the inside.
