New SDD in second hand MacBook is asking for password (Filevault?)

Hi,

Bought a second hand Macbook Pro (Early 2013) from a seller in UK. They had said they wanted to keep the old hard drive and that I would need to buy a new one, which I did (OWC Aura pro 6gb/s) and installed it. Problem is when I try to launch Disc utility, its asking for a password ( I presume filevault from other blogs).

No idea how to fix??

Any guidance appreciated,

Thanks

File Vault is disk based so it can't be that. More likely the owner of the system had a hardware password set. You'll need to talk with the original owner to get the password or have them remove it. You should ask if they also enabled 'Find My Mac' if they did they need to remove the system from there systems listing held in iCloud.Com under their Apple ID.

Thanks @ Dan, I been trying to contact the seller for weeks now but no joy. Your answer makes sense but looks like I'm in trouble, if its a hardware password. thanks for the reply.
