How to fix the type-c connector? (late 2016)

Basically the type-c connector on my macbook has seen better days i've had it for almost a year now and its been on the road with me how or where can I find out how to replace the type-c connectors on the late 2016 13" macbook pro? (one of them still works but is bent of shape a little)

Hi!

You can't replace the USB-C ports by yourself, they are soldered to the mother board. You'd have to replace the motherboard to replace them.I think a micro-soldering specialist could also replace them, but you'd risk damaging the motherboard even further.

Solution 1

It's not possible to replace these USB-C Ports because both USB-C Ports are only one part and are soldered on the Logic Board with many BGA Balls. You either need an donor board where you or the Soldering specialist (hopefully) can desolder it without damaging any other components in that area and under the interference shield of the USB-C Ports with an rework station (please keep in mind that you will have to re-ball the new Connectors BGA Pads after desoldering), or just buy a new Logic Board and sell the current one over eBay.

Solution 2

What you can also try (try it on your own luck, I am not liable for any damages done by this procedure) is to disassemble the MacBook so you can take the Logic Board out and see if you can gently bend back the bent USB-C Port! Use this Teardownto see how it's done.

Hope this helped you out :)
