2007 MacBook Pro Wont Power On...

Hello!

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro 15inch which had the Nvidia Geforce 8600m GT problem.

I followed guides to get the graphics chip working again.

when i first turned it on, it didn't do anything and took a afew presses of the power button to do anything.

When i finally got the computer to post, it would shut down a couple of seconds after the startup chime.

Sometimes if i was lucky, it would boot all the way up to OS X and then shut off shortly after.

Times when it dosen't turn on at all, it sounds as if the hard drive is spinning up and then dies after a while.

please Help!

Did you bake it? Never bake a motherboard. Just because the chip works for a short time does not mean it's fixed. Heating the chip will not fix it. It will just make it work for a short amount of time as the chip is literally falling apart and heating it just moves things around in the chip.

After baking it, who knows what is toasted on the board.

Try a recovery disk if you have one. Alternatively, you can make one yourself. Personally, I use a program called Hiren's Boot CD to do diagnostics when anyone is having trouble booting. You can actually make it work on a thumbdrive. I would show you a link but ifixit bots are not letting me for the time being. I am not all that familiar with Macs, but there should be a system diagnostic called S.M.A.R.T. that you can utilize to determine if your hard drive is going bad. I will tell you, though, that more than likely your hard drive is failing after ten years.
