I spilled a tea on my laptop, it won't turn on sometimes.

Hello guys,

5 days ago I spilled a hot tea with honey on my laptop, in a moment laptop turned off. In a chaos I tried to turn it on again, but it didn't.... of course. I plugged off the adapter and turned it upside down. I removed the back cover and drown it in rice with the back cover down (as normal, not upside down) for a night.

The next day it wasn't booting again, I removed the logic board and all components to see the damage, I didn't saw any burned things or water, only traces of an honey, which were sticky. I was trying to boot it with power pads, with an adapter with battery off, I also tried with keyboard off, to ensure there was no short circuit, but with no luck.

After five days I tried to boot it again with keyboard and battery unplugged and it miraculously booted on, twice. First time I shut it down, then I had problems booting it on and after several attempts I made it working again. It all happened only in some special position of adapter or I couldn't say why it booted in that way, maybe some wiring position changed as I was rotating with the laptop... I connected keyboard and battery on the run and keyboard works also everything else except keyboard light looks also working. The problem is I can't boot it properly, only by chance I was able to boot it. I guess, it could be some problem with contacts, wiring related to booting up the machine.

The question is, what could be causing this strange behaviour, should I try to clean logic board with an alcohol, could that possibly help with booting? Or what else should I try to solve the problem?

PS. I didn't succeed with booting the machine with power button.

Thank you guys for your help. :)

First, rice doesn't work. It's a myth.

Second, there may already be permanent damage to the motherboard caused by your attempts at (re)starting it, so any further attempts should be taken with a grain of salt.

To properly address this you will need to remove the motherboard and do a complete cleaning. Use 99% isopropyl alcohol, a very soft natural bristle brush, Q-Tips, and a very light touch. But cleaning it is only the start; as I said, there may already be permanent damage.

This isn't an operation for the feint of heart.
