What about PP3V0_TRISTAR; what voltage are you measuring?

Have you checked R2400 which is inline on TIGRIS_TO_BATTERY_SWI? On the older models there used to be a filter. If it is dislodged or damaged, you will have this kind of erratic charging.

Does iTunes properly recognize the phone and have you tried to do a backup/sync to see if the communications work fully? Remember that Tristar is above all else a communications chip, not a charging IC. The real charging is driven by TIGRIS (via the SWI line) which is itself controlled by the CPU.

I would also test the TIGRIS circuit completely if the above hasn't solved your problem.

Hi , sorry so long to reply to this , I started to test the components around the TIGRIS chip , but just at a critical stage my 4 year old came running over for " daddy cuddle" pushed me and the tip of the test probe destroyed one side of the tigris chip !!! . i was less than amused as you can imagine ,,

i ordered a new tigris and while fitting it my air station did not seem hot enough so i turned it up , then up again , then all of a sudden a great amount of heat and several components were blown out of place , Q2300 disappeared and the audio ic 's solder balls came out from beneath , the tigris aswell ..

At this point i was nearly ready to give up but decided to get a new hot air station (quick 861) what a night and day difference ,, i reballed the audio ic , tigris and replaced the Q2300 , blew all the moved components more or less back were they belong ..

I could not believe it when the phone not only booted up but all worked fine !!

The charging issue must have been the Tigris chip all along ..

Sorry for the long post and i really appreciate the help ..

best regards .

Yeah, but 4 year olds are adorable...I'm sure you forgave him/her quickly :>).

I have heard great things about the Quick 861. I have a Hakko myself so I'm set but it's good to hear that you are satisfied.

Congrats on a great repair!

Thanks , and yes he was forgiven fairly soon ..
