Powers on, but screen stays black, flickers white, volume button sound

Hello,

I've done some research but haven't found anything quite the same as my issue.

I think there was some kind of power surge & when I try to turn on my iMac, it chimes but the screen stays black. The caps lock button lights up & if I hit the buttons to increase/decrease the volume, it makes the usual noise.

The screen stays black but does have white flickering lines sometimes or almost the whole screen sort of flickers white, especially after you press buttons. It's like it is trying but can't fully light up. Please help

Answer this question I have this problem too

Can you give us your exact model as Apple has quite a few different iMac's. On the bottom of your foot stand you'll find your serial number. Plug that into here: EveryMac - Lookup. Once you know paste the systems URL here for us to see.

Where you able to test your system with an external display? What you find out here will help us narrow down what needs service.

Try connecting an external monitor to your system to see if the image is clear on it. If it is then the display is having problems, if not then your logic board and/or power supply has issues.
