no pictures on the cable/ HDMI connection, the sound is fine.
I have the same model lg 42" lcd tv - model 42ld550 TV but in this case no pictures on the cable/ HDMI connection, the sound is fine.

@stiletto sounds like a bad main board (where the input connectors are) Looks like all video inputs have BCM (IC900) in common. You do want to check the boards for any obvious damaged components. Unplug your set and remove the back. Take a look around but do not touch anything since the caps may still be charged. Take a couple of good pictures of your board and post those with your question. Use this guide for that. It will allow us to see what you see.
