Why my flash doesn't always work when using manual mode?

Hi

When I'm trying to take intra oral pictures from patient and the mode is set to manual, the flash doesn't always work. So some of my pictures are black.

Sometimes for one patient I have to take more than 20 pictures because some turn black.

How can I fix this problem?

What sort of flash are you using Dr.?

What shutter speed?

Make sure you are using the flash system designed specifically for this sort of work, and are shooting within the recommended shutter speed range. Probably longer than 1/200sec.

Nikon makes a two flash system designed for macro photography, the R1C1 flash system. It retails around $750 USD but you can probably find a used system some where.
