How do I fix an 'out2' problem?

My digital kitchen scales are showing an 'out2' message. According to google, this could be due to overloading, but I can't think how this might have happened, as I don't weigh anything very heavy :)

I've replaced the batteries and even taken the back off, but nothing was obviously loose (I'm not very electronically savvy, but it looked ok to me). The scale did show numbers after I put it back together, but reverted to the 'out2' message after I turned it off then on again.

The scales are are only 2 years old and not heavily used, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Would hate to add it to landfill :(

@katemachin that is a tough one. Could be a memory issues caused by a depleted battery. It is also possible that this is an error to the LCD. I'd remove the complete circuit board and check for corrosion and check the contacts from the board to the LCD display. At this time you cannot cause anymore damage but could possibly fix it for good. Take plenty of pictures and post those with your question. that will allow us to see what you see. Use this guide for that.

I managed to fix the Out2 error problem and I don’t think it has anything to do with overloading or calibration. Take out the battery. Then, take the 2 halves of the scale apart by undoing the 2 screws underneath the CE label on the back. Then you need to carefully clean around the 2 buttons - I used a very fine steel pick. A thick needle would probably work as well, just gently scrape around the buttons from both the outside face and as far underneath you can get on the inside face of each button. But the magic solution was a very slight spray of CRC where the buttons make contact. I probably sprayed a bit too much, but it worked immediately. Screw the 2 halves back together, insert the battery, job done. My Salter is around 8 years old and hopefully will go another 8. Good luck!

My Salter scale showed that message “OUT2” on the screen, out of the blue. It looked like some liquid was on the screen. I solved the problem by opening the scale as stated above and cleaning and drying with a hairdryer around the screen and all electronics area. Closed the box, reinstalled the battery and, voilà!, the pan again running. The idea came from Oldturkey03 solution, thanks!

i had OUT2 message as well. In my case one wire was lose and was needed to resolder. Resoldering the cable back to the board has fixed the issue :)

I came to the solution that it was due to them becoming damp , high humidity as when I applied heat to the bottom of the scales and over the battery compartment using a hairdryer, it resolved the issue !
