Home Button working, TouchID not working

Replaced a friend's screen today and everything is functioning as normal after repairs except for TouchID. The home button works as normal with this exception.

In settings the old TouchID data was erased (which is no big deal). But when attempting to setup TouchID fresh, the phone will transition to the first setup screen and then immediately report that there is an error with TouchID and it cannot be setup.

The home button was removed and reinstalled on the new screen with the utmost care. It makes little sense that the button functions perfectly fine, but TouchID does not work.

Any suggestions?

A few questions:

- Did you make sure to unplug the battery before removing screen cables?

- Have you inspected the home button extension cable and the home button ribbon cable itself for any signs of physical damage or punctures?

- Consider trying a replacement home button extension cable with metal plate.

These can go bad especially if the home button extension cable connector end for plugging in home button does not have a metal plate under it.

The home button cable extention is probably defective, try the old screen and see if that works.
