After replacing iPhone 3GS Dock Connector: Antenna Signal is Weak

I just replace the Dock Connector on my iPhone 3GS. Everything seems to be working fine but I'm getting weak GSM Edge and 3G signal.

I read iPhone 3GS Replaced dock assembly wifi good but very weak GSM Edge 3G, and verified that all the screw are in place correctly and the white bit that came with the antenna is were the do not remove sticker was. However, I'm still getting weak signal.

There's a copper tab on the antenna, is that supposed to come in contact with the case bezel (ie does it use the case bezel as an extension of the antenna)?

Also, doe's anyone have any other ideas on what may be causing this problem?

I think you 've answered this yourself! yes the small tab on the flex connection forms part of the antenna with the bezel, simply put the tab in contact with the bezel and you should notice the change immediately.

I found out that my eBay replacement part gave me crap reception. So my fix was use the apple arieal and eBay dock connector. Simply job rip off the sticker on the back of the dock connector and replace with your old one. Works gave me back full signal :) The little tab has nothing to do with signal as I use my apple aerial with the iPhone apart and made a call lol

I also replaced my docking connector from one off of ebay. Now my reception is very bad. Though I already threw out my original one.

Any suggestions as to where to get a good replacement antenna to stick onto my ebay docking connector?

The iPhone 3GS has a coaxial antenna connector about 1.5 cm (1/2") above the microphone. Make sure it is properly connected.

Just came across this website looking for answers as to why my reception was extremely poor to none after doing dock assembly replacement and battery change. I performed the sparky maneuver and voila 5 bars. I can only say thank you and God bless you for sharing your knowledge. I don't have to buy a new phone now.
