Home button only works intermittently; can it be repaired?

The Home button on my iPad Air works most of the time, but sometimes pressing it doesn't wake the device. When this happens, I have to press the button repeatedly or hold it down to wake the device. Can this problem be repaired?

Hi,

Replacing the button would probably fix your issue.

If your device is under warranty this would be a free replacement. Remember to back up your data by means of iTunes or iCloud before attempting any repair or replacement.

The best solution, if this is an option for you, would be to have the device replaced by Apple themselves at an Apple Retail store. If you don't have an Apple Retail store where you live they can do it over the phone if you call Apple at 1-800 APL-CARE (800–275–2273).

Good Luck.

Thanks so much for your answer! I didn't realize until I saw what you wrote that I must have misremembered which iPad I have . . . I don't have the Touch ID feature. My mistake!

@shandyist his answer is incorrect. The iPad Air does not have Touch ID, the iPad Air 2 does. If the home button is curved and has a square it is the air 1. If not, it is the air 2.

@shandyist Sorry. @gigabit87898 is correct. I misread your question. In that case your could repair just the button at any local repair shop and that should solve the problem.

Thank you! I appreciate it!
