Having trouble starting a Massey Ferguson tractor? Frequently ask a question on Google by Farmers. Make sure the battery is fully charged. If you are having trouble bleeding out air, just barely open each fuel line (one at a time) while someone cranks the engine. Once fuel starts coming out, tighten it up again. https://www.tractorcorner.com/jm/

@holly1catherine ,Catherine, Ensure battery is fully charged. Trouble bleeding air out, just barely crack open each fuel line (one at a time) right at the injector while someone cranks the engine over. As soon as you get fuel coming out tighten it back up again. If no fuel could be plugged filter, clogged/damaged/pinched fuel line, faulty pump. The link below has a really thorough write up on bleeding/trouble shooting diesel fuel system approx 1/2 way down the page. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

hello, i had the same problem with my 1100 massey ferguson. was down and i went thru the entire fuel system. but when i was trying to crank it, the engine did the same thing. it was down for three years with no luck running. i finaly was going thru everything and thats when i removed both filters and noticed that one of my wix filters did't have holes on top like the other one. so just to be sure, i purchased two new filters of a didderent brand and both had holes on the top and after bleeding the system, the engine cranked. check your filters and goodluck.

Troubleshooting a Massey Ferguson Tractor That Won't Stay Running:

**1. Check Fuel System:

  • Ensure the tractor has an adequate amount of fuel.
  • Check the fuel filter for clogs. If dirty, replace it.
  • Bleed the fuel system to remove any air. Loosen the bleed screw on the fuel filter housing until only fuel comes out.

**2. Inspect the Air System:

  • Check the air filter for any blockages. A clogged air filter can affect combustion.
  • Ensure the air intake system is free from debris or obstructions.

**3. Verify Fuel Quality:

  • If the tractor ran low on fuel, there might be sediment or impurities in the fuel tank.
  • Drain the fuel tank and refill it with clean, fresh diesel fuel.

**4. Inspect Glow Plugs (If Equipped):

  • If your Massey Ferguson tractor has glow plugs, check their functionality.
  • Faulty glow plugs can make it difficult for the engine to start and stay running.

**5. Check for Fuel Injector Issues:

  • Inspect the fuel injectors for clogs or malfunctions.
  • If there are issues, consider having the injectors professionally cleaned or replaced.

**6. Examine the Battery:

  • Ensure the tractor's battery is fully charged.
  • Check the battery terminals for corrosion, and clean if necessary.
  • Weak batteries can cause starting issues.

**7. Verify Fuel Pump Operation:

  • Check if the fuel pump is functioning properly.
  • Listen for the sound of the fuel pump when you turn the key to the "on" position.

**8. Inspect the Ignition System:

  • Check the spark plugs and ignition system for any issues.
  • Ensure that the ignition system is delivering a strong spark to the cylinders.

**9. Examine the Exhaust System:

  • Check for any exhaust system obstructions or leaks.
  • A restricted exhaust can affect engine performance.

**10. Consult the Manual: - Refer to the tractor's manual for specific troubleshooting steps and maintenance recommendations.

If, after going through these steps, the issue persists, it may be advisable to seek assistance from a professional mechanic or Massey Ferguson dealership for a more in-depth diagnosis and repair.
