earpiece is on connector 3, try reseating this and check for damage to connection/flex. app sounds run off main speaker on the dock connector which is why they still work.

mute button needs to be checked that little plastic toggle on flex is on groove inside the mute switch-it is fiddly and time consuming. sometimes if you stick the mute button from the outside of the phone (in down position) it leaves you 2 hands free to put flex toggle in properly.

Where is the toggle at for the mute switch? thanks for all the info....

by

at the end of mute flex is the metal connection and on the other side is a small(tiny) plastic switch-sometimes is red, sometimes black. this is the toggle

by

ok thank you I will check that :~)

ok I'm a girl and I can't find the toggle....I think that might be it because when i call out the mute button light isn't on.all the lights on the key pad is on but the mute button light...I can't figure out where the mute flex is

by

i'm a girl so maybe i didn't make sense.the mute button/vibrate flex is on the headphone/volume jack.

when i re read your original question have you missed out an "L" and your question should say mute button not "lit" up? as in the option for mute on your touchscreen isn't on?
