you can erase my comment but it’s still cheap junk.

and that’s how I’m going to review it and how I’ll talk to my friends about it.

Hi @OB Cooke

This is a forum for repairing devices not reviewing them.

Hi,

Are you pushing it in far enough?

You do not have to force the card in. It should push in easily.

If you push it in and feel a springy resistance then it is going in the correct way. (the gold contacts on the card are facing towards the tablet when inserting into the slot and usually facing down) Keep pushing and it will then come back slightly and lock into place.

To release the card you need to push it in further again and it will then pop back far enough for you to grab hold of it.

and what do you do when no matter how hard you try over-and-over again the microsd card won't stay in place?

what do you do when the cheap piece of junk sd slot stops accepting cards?

@OB Cooke

You can try the 3rd answer down by @stanames or you replace the SD card module (supplier example only) but it may depend on how it is mounted on the systemboard as what particular one you get e.g. through hole, smd straight or 90° etc

Lisa Ortega , Just to add to jayeff good response, if his suggestions do not fix the problem, there is a chance the SD slot could have a foreign object in it(as seen in video link) or the lock inside could be damaged. With a flashlight try to look inside the slot for anything out of place or dust,debri,etc and pick out with a tooth pick carefully. If you see a spring or other part out of place, the port will probably have to be replaced. This part could be hard to replace so you may want a good local computer repair shop have a look and estimate repair. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

I have had this problem for a couple of years. Installing a new slot is too much for all but the most experienced guys and too costly to have done professionally. My easy fix is to push the card in as far as it will go, then jam the tip of a wooden toothpick into the small Gap between the SD card and the side of the slot. Then gently break of the rest of the toothpick by bending and twisting. Sometimes the little cover over the slot doesn’t fully close, but that’s never been a problem for me. Quick and dirty but it works.

I tried this method and it worked like a charm, thanks!

Thanks for the tip - I used it on my dashcam (using a bit of plastic from a cable tie instead of the match) and it worked a treat!

if you have a chromebook and the micro sd won’t click in, get a dime and gently push the dime until you hear a click, if you don’t hear a click go to your local repair shop
