Light on water dispenser won't turn on

I have GE side by side refrigerator with ice and water dispenser. The light bulb was burned out, so I bought a replacement and have verified that it is the correct voltage and watts. When I press the light button the filament turns a dull red, but does not turn on fully. Does this mean there is something broken in the housing or wiring?

You need to use the 6W 12Volt bulb not the 120Volt.

Hi LT, Rebecca said she already replaced the bulb but still didn't work. I have a similar issue, except I know my bulb is OK. Everything works on my GE GSL22JFZBLB, except for my water dispenser bulb. I tested the socket with my multimeter and no juice at the socket. I was able to remove the front control panel, removed the wires from the board, but the frame behind the control board refuses to come loose. I do not wish to damage it trying to get at the wiring going to the bulb socket....... what should I try? TIA

If the bulb is tight in the socket and you have 0 volts across the socket the next check is at the UI board. Since you have the board pulled out already you can check at the connection to socket. UNPLUG the refrigerator. Check for ohms and not voltage across the socket. If the meter shows no change then the socket or bulb is bad. If it shows a reading then there is a problem at the control board. Most common problem is the bulb is bad and glowing or bulb is not tighten down enough.

Check all connections, before plugging back in.
