Won't hit vtec taks out at 4,000 rpms

My 2002 honda accord ex 2.3l has the f23a4 vtec I'm having a problem finding out why my car is only hitting 4,000 rpms rpm and won't hit vtec I have changed the oil 5w20 I replaced the plugs plug wire the distributer cap and the button I have also replaced the vtec solenoid and it still isn't running proper need help on this one

Hi,

Just a thought.

VTEC is a mechanical action controlled by the ECU turning the solenoid on and off.

Turn on solenoid VTEC enabled, turn off solenoid VTEC disabled

With the engine off, try removing the fuse that powers the ECU. Leave it out for a few minutes and then replace it. This should reset the ECU. I think that it is fuse #13 Clock /Backup passenger side fuse box.

You could also remove the -ve battery cable to achieve the same result but this would affect your car radio presets and perhaps the security code for it (the radio) would also have to be re-entered for it to work again
