Are their processor upgrades: core duo to 2 core duo? can it be done?

I love this machine and cannot part with it. Are the later MBP systems logic board (2 Core Duo) the same size as this one/ Will this model accept and run the 64 bit configuration?

I bet Mayer would know the answer!
