A1226 won't boot : sleep light is on but no display

Hello ! I have a problem with my A1226 MacBook Pro : today, when I tried to wake it from sleep I heard the fan spining but no display, and the caps-lock key didn't work.

I shut it down by holding the power key, but when I tried to power it on again I had the same symptoms : fan spinning, the SuperDrive noise, but no display and the sleep light turned on. Caps-lock key didn't work either.

I tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC without any effect (in fact nothing happened when I pressed Command-Option-P-R right after power on). I tried connecting an external display but nothing.

I've read some things about faulty NVidia chips. Could this be one of them ? What can I do if it's the case (it's not on warranty anymore).

Otherwise, the fact that the sleep LED is on makes me think that maybe the sensor which detects when the lid is closed doesn't work, is it possible ?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hello! Unfortunately nobody wrote you back. But when I read your Answer I remembered me a year ago. I had exactly the same problems. I could also play music from iTunes only with the Keyboard but only the display keeped black.

I brought it to repair and! It was a faulty nVidia chip on it and they put a hole new mainboard in it for free!

Hope it helps someone ;)

Howdy!

Yes, Apple's Quality Control Program ensures that they replace the Logic Board for free in the A1226 models, and even a couple others. It happened to me, but my condition was a little unique. All you need to do is go to the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store, and they'll replace it for you! :) Good luck!
