Screen pixelates, disconnects unless I hold it steady

Recently I turned on my computer and the screen looked like someone had stepped on it. Wasn't completely black. Rather, it looked like someone was applying pressure to it and distorting the image into a dark plasma soup. Then I tilted the screen slightly and this problem went away. Now, however, the screen continues to act funny unless I hold it steady. It doesn't go black, but it sort of pixelates. Imagine the image you get in that split second when disconnecting a monitor, when only half the data is being transmitted, before the cord is completely pulled. When this happens, the whole computer freezes. I can't type anything until I steady the screen again.

I'm guessing there's some kind of connector that needs to be replaced. But I'm not sure which. Any ideas?

Kind thanks,

Chris
