MacBook works ok after water damage; will alcohol cleaning be needed?

Back in March 2016, I knocked a liter bottle of Aqaufina over on my bed and water got all in my macbook pro. It was soaking. After it shut down, I got towels to dry it off and also opened the bottom case to dry the logic board and left it by a heater all night. In the morning the computer turned on, and my heart just lit up with relief! I haven't really used this computer except a few times since there are some at school, but now there's more homework and I need to use computer after campus hours. Anyway, I went to a macbook repair shop to have the usb ports undergo a component repair (these ports were not functioning before the water spill) and under examination, the tech said he would rather clean up the water damage he viewed under the microscope first then use soldering methods to do the usb ports. Turns out that I had to leave without them doing the work because they were not going to be able to finish it today like they said over the phone and I have to bring it back on Friday when I can afford not to have my computer for one or two days.....So I am wondering, would having the water corrosion cleared away at this point be of much difference? Besides the usb ports that were already out before the spill, the only thing that I thought was off about my mac was that installing 16gb of ram didn't significantly decrease start up time than the 4gb it had before

Answer this question I have this problem too

If the problems were happening before than i would say it wouldn't affect the usb port problem. It is a good idea to remove all corrosion on the macbook to prevent future problems. Its hard to tell if the problems for the usb failure are board level or the ports were damaged somehow. For what it costs to fix these problems it might be cheaper to replace the logic board itself. Installing the 16gb of ram wouldn't affect the startup time on your mac. Installing a ssd on the mac however would since the operating system is installed on your hard drive.

Hello,

Have they checked the Liquid Submersion Indicators (LSI)? The first thing to do in such cases is to disconnect the battery (it’s important). I had a similar issue, so I called the customer service and kept asking for a supervisor - in this case they just reduced the price for repair. The water corrosion should be cleared in any case, because it can be later a huge problem.
