Why does my screen turn pink, freeze, and enter an infinite restart?

Occasionally, my screen will turn pink, with horizontal black lines, freeze the phone, and send it into an infinite loop of restarts. Often with repeated pink screen upon lick screen booting.

Sometimes battery removal ends the loop, sometimes not. It usually does it for about 20mins, then corrects.

I'm just trying to get an idea of what's going on.
